Guo Pei-2007 Samsara fashion show

In 2006, Guo Pei releases her first Haute Couture show titled “Samsara” (Life cycle) during China International Fashion Week. This show introduces Guo Pei to the world stage of Haute Couture. The show is then successfully received by international medias which gives him the ‘Fashion and Design Award’ of the Fashion Week. This presentation is the result of Guo Pei’s ten years of efforts, which captures her passion and dreams of Haute Couture. Altogether 43 pieces, each one is a magnificent piece of art.

Guo Pei’s visit in Museum of War on Paris is the source of her inspiration for the ‘Samsara’ collection. Seeing Napoleon’s military uniform, she’s impressed by the details and its embroidered patterns. She feels some kind of immortality conveyed by this uniform. Soldier in armor facing the war, where the end of life and the instant of death are immortalized. Pride and dignity as a human being. In the “Samsara” collection, Guo Pei uses the language of colors to interpret changes of time and essence of life cycles. From pale to dark blue, from vicissitudes to shining moments. From night and starlight to the next morning and the new day light, colors express reincarnation and the reborn of life. Only eternal beauty could travel through times and leave glorious times behind.

This show features one of the most famous piece of Guo Pei and her team : the gown called “Dajing” (grand gold) which required 50,000 hours of work. Its delicate embroidery combines Chinese and Western artisanship, giving life to its embroidered dragon pattern.
